Thought for the Week
Our Sunday, 19th April gospel reading majored on Thomas who wanted to see Jesus’ resurrection, reminded me of this excerpt from ‘The Secrets of the Heart’ by Kahlil Gibran. A good one to ponder on in your continuing silent moments:
‘Who are you?’ I inquired, fearfully, slowly.
With a voice that sounded like the roar of the ocean, he thundered, bitterly, ‘I am the revolution who builds what the nations destroy…..I am the tempest who uproots the plants, grown by the ages…..I am the one who came to spread war on earth and not peace, for man is content only in misery!’
And, with tears streaming down his cheeks, he stood up high, and a mist of light grew about him, and he stretched forth his arms, and I saw the marks of the nails in the palms of his hands; I prostrated myself before him convulsively and cried out, saying ‘Oh Jesus, the Nazarene!’

Children of our Key Worker Children produced these NHS thank you messages outside the school gates. Other pupils have been invited to make a rainbow picture at home with a message to the NHS and then attach it to the gates on one of their walks.
Films

I generally don’t seem to find much time to sit down and watch a Netflix movie from start to finish but lockdown has enabled me to do so. If you want a couple of heart-warming family films with a real social message, I highly recommend ‘Same kind of different as me’ and ‘The Healer’.
St Laurence Community Hub
The parish is now using the St Laurence Parish Hall on Monday and Wednesday afternoon form 1400-1600 as a collection hub for the Community Kitchen who are distributing free food parcels to families on the Newington Estate. The contact numbers for food parcels are: The St Laurence Parish Office: 01843 592478 (Mon-Fri 0800 -1200) or 07508665199 (mob)
Regular Giving
Finally, can I gently remind you to continue your regular giving even if you can’t get to church on Sunday as we rely on your generosity to pay our monthly overheads and annual Parish Share. If you use the envelope scheme either save the envelopes until you are next able to attend church or if you are able, arrange for someone to bring them to the Parish Office. You can also send a cheque or pay electronically on-line.
