The Thought for the Week
Since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us. (Rom 5:1-5)
In uncertain times, faith can be challenged. For me, this reading gives strength. You might say, ‘It’s all very well for you, but it is my fear, my uncertainty, my loneliness! I know all those feelings! Recently, on my daily walk, I was overcome by such feelings: how are my loved ones? When will we get together? Will the virus get any of us? Is this all there is to look forward to and for how long? Then, I remembered that reading and knew that we cannot trust God too much; He will never leave us, nor let us down. It does not have to be complicated.
I also recalled the story of Martin Luther who, when walking through the woods, would raise his hat to the birds and say, Good morning, theologians! You wake and sing but I, old fool, know less than you and worry over everything, instead of simply trusting in the Heavenly Father's care.'

St Laurence Community Hub
The parish is now using the St Laurence Parish Hall on Monday and Wednesday afternoon from 1400-1600 as a collection hub for the Community Kitchen who are distributing free food parcels to families on the Newington Estate. Regular Giving
Finally, can I gently remind you to continue your regular giving even if you can't get to church on Sunday as we rely on your generosity to pay our monthly overheads and annual Parish Share. If you use the envelope scheme either save the envelopes until you are next able to attend church or if you are able, arrange for someone to bring them to the Parish Office.
