Notices and Forthcoming Events

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: Friday, 3rd March – 10:00 at Hardres Street United Reform Church. Refreshments will be served after the service.

BELLEPLATE GROUP: The Belleplate Group meets on Tuesdays at 10.30 at St Mark. We play a varied selection of music on the belleplates. A belleplate consists of a metal plate with a clapper and a handle – it can be described as a wallpaper scraper with a clapper! They are similar to hand bells in sound, method of playing, and music used. Two main differences are that belleplates are lighter than hand bells and more portable. The music used is all done by numbers so is accessible to everyone. Some players are very pleased to be able to make music on belleplates as they have never had an opportunity to play a musical instrument in the past.

We sometimes play at St Mark church services. We generally hold two informal concerts a year in St Mark Hall, one in the summer and one around Christmas time.

We also play on other occasions and in other places when invited. For instance, last year we played at St Mark Thursday Fellowship, St Laurence Acorn Club and the Friends Group at St James church, Garlinge.

If anyone is interested, please see/contact Jan Austin at St Mark’s janiceaustin21@btinternet.com,

PRAYER GROUP: This group meets weekly on Fridays at 11.00 in St Mark Lounge. The format is structured and starts with open prayer.

At St Mark we have a prayer tree where people can write down prayer needs. At our Friday meeting we pray for all of those whose names are on the prayer tree and for others whom we know in need - as well as for all the churches in our parish, our local area, our country and our world.

All are welcome. For more information, please see/contact Jan Austin at St Mark. janiceaustin21@btinternet.com,

CLUBS/GROUPS: There are a number of groups that meet regularly in our churches and the Pew News is a place where these can be explained and high-lighted. If you know of/lead a group please contact Julia Penn with some detail.

THANET FOOD BANK: During January 1,500 people received food. This number includes 585 children and young people and by far the biggest reason for needing food is benefit related. The lent challenge that was initiated last year will run again this year: you do not need to give up anything for Lent, you can give something instead…an item of food for each day to the Food Bank?

CHURCH SALE: St Nicholas church is holding a “Past and Present” Church Sale on Saturday, 25th February, 10am -1pm. Bric-a-brac, glassware, toys, clothing, jewellery, books and refreshments available.

PARISH OFFICE: We now do have a volunteer manning the office part-time, someone who has taken on the wedding arrangements and another person acting as secretary for the hall bookings. Thank you to those who have stepped forward. If you think you could help, please contact Alison Willoughby-Browne on treasurer@stlaurenceparish-ramsgate.org
