THE COLLECT FOR TODAY
O God, you declare your almighty power, most chiefly in showing mercy and pity; mercifully grant to us such a measure of your grace that we, running the way of your commandments, may receive your greatest promises and be made partakers of your heavenly treasure. Through Jesus Christ, your son, our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit - one God, now and forever. Amen.

Notices and Forthcoming Events
SUMMER FAIR: An ENORMOUS THANK YOU to everyone who made the 2023 St Laurence Fair a success. About £1200 was raised for Parish Funds and £300 for the restoration of the St Lawrence Clock, so a total of £1500.
CANCER RESEARCH UK: This charity has a newly-opened store where Argos used to be on the Westwood Gateway Retail Park. They are in urgent need of household items which they are happy to receive in store between 21st August and 3rd September. Please have a rummage through your cupboards and on your shelves and see what you no longer need!
RIDE AND STRIDE: On Saturday 9th September, this annual sponsored event will take place: it involves either cycling or walking to as many churches as possible, and, if the weather is fine, it is a very enjoyable event.
Sponsor forms are in churches now. Please ask.
St Mark’s, St Catherine’s and also St Laurence church are looking for volunteers to man the churches between the hours of 10am and 6pm/4pm in order to greet the participants and to sign the sponsor forms. It is feasible for this to be sponsored also. And it would be great if some of us could volunteer a little extra time to man St Christopher’s as well (please contact Kevin Spain about this). Thanks to those folk who have already put themselves forward.
Some of the money raised by this event goes to the CofE and a percentage comes back to the parish in which it was raised. Please contact your church warden if you are able to offer any time to have our churches open on this day. Suggestion: what about having a shared lunch?
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Help is needed over the summer to remove weeds from the gulley which surrounds the church at St Laurence. Friends of the Churchyard meet on Wednesdays from 10:00-12:00.
SAVE THE DATES: St Lawrence Clock Restoration Appeal.
Saturday 16th September: The Thanet Male Voice Choir are giving a concert in aid of the St Lawrence Clock Restoration Appeal and Pancreatic Cancer Research at the Sarah Thorne Theatre in Broadstairs. Tickets £12.00 each in advance from www.sarahthornetheatre.co.uk or £14.00 on the night.
Saturday 21st October: Quiz Night in the Parish Hall.
Friday 3rd November: Concert in St Laurence church - more details nearer the time of each event.
If you are unable to get along to any of the mentioned events or wish to make a regular monthly donation, remember you can donate direct to the clock restoration fund by bank transfer/online banking or standing order. The bank account is with Lloyds Bank in the name of Ramsgate Heritage Regeneration Trust, sort code 30-98-90 account number 18498668. Thank you for all your support. Freda Parker
OPEN CHURCH: Until the end of September St Laurence Church will be open on Saturdays from 10am – 2pm for visitors to look around. Refreshments will be available and a book-sale table. If anyone would like to volunteer as a “church watcher” please contact Barbara Byne on 7867974275. Book donations would be appreciated. Barbara Byne
FOOD BANK: August’s most needed items are: cereals, tinned desserts, Pot Noodles, rice, tinned tomatoes. Thank you for your generosity and continued support; it really is appreciated and still so needed. Any queries or for more information, please speak with Ruth Farmer on 01843 863577 or email on ruth.farmer@talktalk.net
