THE COLLECT FOR TODAY

Almighty God, whose son revealed in signs and miracles the wonder of your saving presence, renew your people with your heavenly grace. And in all our weakness sustain us by your mighty power – through Jesus Christ, your son, our Lord – who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit: one God, now and for ever. Amen.

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

22nd January – St Vincent’s Day – the first Spanish martyr, dying in the early fourth century, having suffered numerous modes of torture.

Remember on St Vincent’s Day,

If the sun his beams display,

Be sure to mark the transient beam,

Which through the casement casts a gleam.

For ‘tis a token bright and clear

Of prosperous weather all the year. Traditional rhyme.

PEOPLE FOR PRAYER

Those in need of our prayers: Brenda, Andy, Alistair, Dave B, Peter, Shirley, Kevin, Dave S and those who are known personally to you.

Notices and Forthcoming Events

ACORN CLUB: This is a social club aimed at the mature members of our congregations. It involves an activity, a raffle, refreshments and chat and then bingo. £2 per session plus raffle - 50p per strip plus bingo - 60p for 2 games (6 games in total) with £2 prize per game.

KNIT AND NATTER: Knit, Craft and Natter is a group meeting every Wednesday in the lounge at St Marks from 10.00 am to 12.00pm and it costs 50p a session to cover our costs. Anyone who does a craft is welcome along with those who just want to watch and maybe try a craft or just 'natter' with us. We have stitchers, knitters, embroiderers and all sorts. It's a really friendly group of church and non-church goers. All are welcome!

BELLRINGING: The St Laurence bellringers are starting to work towards a quarter peal for the coronation of King Charles III. To get up to the required standard they will be practising on the last Sunday of January, February, March and April from 5:00 -6:00pm. We are looking forward to the opportunity of ringing something special to celebrate the Coronation.

“Ring for the King” is a nationwide event taking place on the 6th May, the day of King Charles III coronation. The Central Council of Church Bell Ringers (CCCBR) is looking to recruit 8000 ringers around the country to take part in this event and to keep the bells going throughout the reign. Here at St Laurence we are looking for some new recruits (obviously not 8000!) to train in time for “Ring for the King”. It’s a fun and cheap hobby which is great for the mind and a great whole-body exercise and, of course, a great social activity. If you are interested, we practise on a Tuesday evening 19:30 – 21;00. Freda Parker – Tower Captain – 07732864076.

CLUBS/GROUPS: There are a number of groups that meet regularly in our churches and the Pew News is a place where these can be explained and high-lighted. If you know of/lead a group please contact Julia with some detail. (Eg: Fellowship Group at St Mark, E.K.I.D.S, Northwood Singers etc)

If you can support the following item, please make every effort to do so!

It is a fundraiser for the parish/clock restoration appeal.

QUIZ NIGHT: in aid of the St Laurence Clock Restoration Appeal, Saturday 28th January at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall. Tickets £5.00 per person, bring your own drinks and nibbles. Tickets from Freda on 07732864076 or info@stlawrenceclockappeal.org

It would be great to see a team from each church in the parish!

PARISH OFFICE: We no longer have anyone manning the office. There are still various tasks that could be split up among several volunteers. Thank you to those who have stepped forward. If you think you could help please contact Alison on treasurer@stlaurenceparish-ramsgate.org
