Notices and Forthcoming Events
BLYTHESWOOD SHOEBOX APPEAL: is being organised by Jean Wall & Zena Barron of St. Marks and Sharon Cutler of St. Laurence. Start filling your shoeboxes in readiness. Think separately for men, women, boys and girls. The boxes need to be ready for collection by the end of this month of OCTOBER – please, so this is your last chance! Big thanks to those who have done so already.
PREVIOUS MINISTER IN THIS PARISH: Harry Boreham, who was vicar of St. Mark's around the turn of the century - has sadly passed away - the funeral is on 28 October in Colchester – please pray for his widow Rosemary.
SUPPORT FOR UKRAINE: Graham Elliott of St Catherine’s church in Manston is going to drive a 4x4 vehicle to Ukraine this November for the 2nd time. He is reaching out to you for financial support for the charity. Here is what he says:
-
vehicles that we drive over there are bought second-hand here in the UK and are in good shape. Once we deliver them in Ukraine, they are given a camouflage paint-job and delivered to the front line. They are used as ambulances for the wounded and for civilian evacuation. These vehicles save lives: those of the brave Ukrainians - and others - fighting Putin's forces; as well as civilians, especially the elderly, caught up in the fighting.
If you can make a donation to help purchase the vehicle and for the ancillary costs, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
Please note the following that Driving Ukraine have asked me to make clear with regard to donations:
-
Donorbox will give you the option of donating £20/£50/£100, but you can choose your own figure to put in 'custom amount'.
-
If you tick the box that allows your name, amount and any message to appear on the Donor Wall, it will encourage others to do the same; if you choose not to tick the box, the donation sum will not appear (but will still be donated !).
-
To reduce DU's office bureaucracy, please do not use Gift Aid for donations under £250.
-
There is a different procedure for donations above £1000; if you are able to make one of that size, contact me and I will send you the explanatory link.
Thank you very much indeed. Graham
