ST LAURENCE QUIZ FOR CLOCK APPEAL: THANK YOU to everyone who came along to make the clock-fundraising quiz evening a success. The total raised was £531.00 …Freda Parker – Tower Captain
BELLRINGING: The St Laurence bellringers are starting to work towards a quarter peal for the coronation of King Charles III. To get up to the required standard they will be practising on the last Sunday of January, February, March and April from 5:00 -6:00pm. We are looking forward to the opportunity of ringing something special to celebrate the coronation.
“Ring for the King” is a nationwide event taking place on the 6th May, the day of King Charles III coronation. The Central Council of Church Bell Ringers (CCCBR) is looking to recruit 8000 ringers around the country to take part in this event and to keep the bells going throughout the reign. Here at St Laurence, we are looking for some new recruits (obviously not 8000!) to train in time for “Ring for the King”. It’s a fun and cheap hobby which is great for the mind and a great whole-body exercise and, of course, a great social activity. If you are interested, we practise on a Tuesday evening 19:30 – 21:00. THURSDAY FELLOWSHIP: This group meets every Thursday afternoon at 2.30pm in St Mark’s Lounge. It is aimed at ladies, but gentlemen are welcome. Between 12 and 20 members attend each week, not all of whom come to church services, but the meeting does start with a short time of worship and include two Christian talks each term. Other weeks see speakers on various subjects, quizzes, musical sessions, card making and other activities. Each year a different charity is supported.
CLUBS/GROUPS: There are a number of groups that meet regularly in our churches and the Pew News is a place where these can be explained and highlighted. If you know of/lead a group please contact Julia Penn with some detail. (Eg St Mark’s Prayer Group, Bible study groups, Northwood Singers etc)
PARISH OFFICE: is now manned by volunteers Monday, Thursday and Friday 9.30-11am, please call ahead to confirm someone will be there - 01843 592478. There are still various tasks that could be split up among several volunteers. Thank you to those who have stepped forward.
